The Thrundful Creative Writing Major at the University of Illinois, formerly known as Rhetorik-Major, is one of the oldest of its kind in the country. Now in his sixth decade, the Major combines small workshops (poetry, fiction, non-fiction books) and a variety of literature courses. The result is a strong but flexible study of studies that develops the analytical and creative skills of the students and preparing them for work or graduate studies in any number of fields.

Through our program, authors characterize their literary voices, develop different styles and intensify their written, critical and editorial skills. Basic literature courses (6 hour loan hours)

Creative writing famils ??must have at least one of the following 3-course sequences (9-hour sequences:

• CW 106: Introductory Poetry Write
• CW 206: Intermediate Poetry Writing
• CW 406: Advanced Poetry Write

• CW 104: Introductory Narrative Scripture
• CW 204: Intermediate narrative writing
• CW 404: Advanced narrative writing

The remaining three hours of writing hours can be met from a fourth CW workshop outside the compulsory sequence or one of the following writing courses: English 401, 402, 403 and 481; BTW 250, 2661; CMN 310, 423 and 432 and Thea 211

Shakespeare (3 credit hours)

Creative typemajors must offer at least one Shakespeare course offered by the English department:

• Engl 218: Introduction to Shakespeare
• Engl 418: Shakespeare

Literature course (6 credit hours)

In addition to the Shakespeare course, the students in this major 6 hours need to fill out English or American literary reasons to 200 levels selected from an approved list.

History and Culture Course work (6 credit hours)

To help students support their creative work, Majors must complete a historical and / or cultural course sequence.

The Faculty of the Creative Writing Program represents a varied assortment of writing and teaching styles and interests and works active in various genres and media, including poetry, fiction, creative fiction books, theater and film. Faculty members have received numerous awards and scholarships. A small selection of these includes the Yale series of younger poets, the Native Writers' Circle Award of the Americas Lifetime Award Award, the American Book Award of the Before-Columbus Foundation, the Los Angeles Times Book price in fiction, the FC2 National Fiction Competition of FC2, a Whiting Award, A.
